THE AUSTRAL OUARDS.
The visit of the Austral Guards Band to Alexandra furnished the reaia dents with"a" musical treat such as has, we believe, never before been experienced on the Goldnelds. The Band* consisting of some 28 performers arrived by special coach oh Friday evening, and were met by the local band, who escorted them down Tarbert Street, the Guards, subsequently, treating the crowd to a couple of selec* S tions, The hall was packed on Saturday evening, when the Band gave a musical programme of selections, solos, . duets, &c., the audience manifesting their delight by repeated applause, Ov, Sunday afternoon the band played a number of selections in the recreation i ground, before a large crowd of visitors; and at the evening meeting in the hall there was an immense audience, there being scarcely' standing room in the building. The final meeting ,wts held on Monday evening, when.the hall was again packed with an appreciative audience, the rendering of eaeh item being vociferously applauded. Those who had the privilege of listening to the Band's performances are unanimous in their expressions of delighted appreciation of the playing of the "visitors and consider themselves fortunate that they were afforded an opportunity of hearing such an excellent combina* ttwn of musicians, -\ 'j|
