Daring the pest week, increased activity has been shown sa the work of balksliog aad plate-laying en tee Otago Line between Ida Valley end Ophir. We are reliably informed that 30 extra man aia being pat aa the ballasting works, while it is expected that plate-laying will ba finished to tba Opair station within a fortnight. So far u wa can gather from the information supplied up from sources, tha line should be opened to Ophir by the and of June, or the beginning af July, anises epefafcioas ara ratardad by tha interveatjoo of" very **wart weather. It is ahnott certain that the Department will arrange for the eaniage of general good* to Lauder at one*, pending tha opaning of tha line to Ophir.
