The above Club are to be heartily congratulated on the undoubted suc-eess—-financial and otherwise—of their first meethg, which was held on the Alexandra racecourse on Friday last, excellent weather prevailing. There was a good attendance of the public, many visitors coming from the most distant parts of the district, despite the threatening state of the weather in the early morning. The rain that fell en the previous evening had the effect of completely quailing the dust nuisance, whilst the course.was in firstclass order, the riders being, well satiss tied with the state of the going. The racing on the whole was close and interesting, and the finish for the Cup was perhaps .the closest and moat ex* citing ever seen on the goldfields. All the officials carried out their duties in a capable manner, and to the satisfac" tion of all concerned, whilst the events were got off with .commendable punctata ality.
