Borough Council.

The adjourned ordinary meeting of the Alexandra Borough OounoO was held on Tuesday evening last, Pros* ent— His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Kelman), Ors Bpenocr, Ryan, Anderson, Schaumann, Laidlaw, and Buchanan.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved,

The race«caretaker waited on the Council and reported on the damage done to the town race from Ohatto Greek by the falling in of Lett's coal pit. A good deal of discussion ensued, and after consultation with the Borough solicitor (Mr Bartholomew) the Council resolved that a letter bo rtjiirto Mr" S. Lett, requiring him to put the race in order, failing which the work will; be done at his expense. Mr BR Green, Inspector of Mines, waited on the Council by reqsest .and. stated, in reply to a question, that it would be advisable to flume orpine about three chains of the race across the place where the subsidence oe-enrred.';';-v-:;'' ' <

The race man also reported on the state of Rivers' race, and said there was only about i| heads in Mouht Oampbell Greek, and about helf-a-feead in Speargrass Greek. A letter was read from Or M'Matb, resigning his position as councillor, as he wae leaving the colony. On the motion of Or Spenser, seconded by Or Anderson, w M«Math'» resignation was soeepted with regret. The estimates of receipts and espendttvrefor the ensuing year (as printed elsewhere in this issue) were read. Or Spencer moved and Or Ryan seconded—That notice be given of the Council's Intention t® Uatf rates as follows: General rate, Is 8d in the£; sanitation rate, 6d in the £; annual recurring rate, Is in the £•—Carried unanimously. The statement of balances showed a total debit balance of £690 13s Bd.

The following accounts were passed for payment.—' Australasian' newspaper, £1 6d; L Boldero, £1; Dr Gregg, £1 lis 6d; J D Thomson, £32 2s 0d; Oraig and Co., 10s; total, .£96 "I.os. - : : ; The Council then rose.
