Volunteer Notes.
(By " Volunteer ") The annual meeting of the corps was held in the orderly room last Thursday evening, when some 25 members attended. An interesting discussion was nipped in the bud by a member who ought to have known better. It must not be inferred that because we have been exrtravagant in tbe past that we should continue to be so in the future; but unfortunately some people never know when to speak or when to be silent. However, we start on another year with a credit of some thing like £§o, after paying all liabilities. This is very fair, but if we had studied economy it would have been a long way better. I would like to remind the citizens that our honorary members' list is empty, and that if we could got ten or twelve members it would enable us to purchase a champion belt for the. corps. Matches could be arranged so that members and honorary members could shoot together. There is nothing like competition. liance-corp. Clare has been eleoted sergeant in place of Sergt Watts, who has resigned. The new sergeant richly deserves the honour, and if w© ail knew the book as well as he does
it would make it far easier for the officers and non-coms. The match, Citizens v. Volunteers, was fired off on Friday last, the Volunteers winning by the small margin of 52 points. The conditions were ten shots at 300 yds and 500 yds, with an optional sighter, Lance-corporal ! Phillips was the highest scorer at j 300 yds, with 41 to his credit, whilst ' at 500 yds Corp. Govan, who made 47, won the range prize, Mr J. J. O'Kane being runner-up with 46. This bout was undoubtedly the best of the day, and both men were unstintingly applauded. Mr O'Kane received the. prize for the highest aggregate, his total being 84, Sergt. South, Corporal Govan and Lance-corporal Phillips each making 81. The match was a decided success, and I sincerely hope it will not be the last of its kind. I would like to throw out a suggestion to the powers that be, and that is that at the next match volunteers should appear in uniform. Following are detailed scores :- VOLUNTBERB
