DYNAMIC PLYING MACHINES: $M Sh«N introducing to & special meeting ,m| --litthe Aeronautical Institute !and ggj Club at St. Bride's Hall, Hew Wilhelm Jlrees, of Vienna,, who. read a paper entitled The Dynamite Flying chairman 5 ?! of the duty Btate||fchatj|hßgeetnrar3liadi been described the most eminent scientifict aeronaut in the world, having'f dr forty years experi-" raented id aeronautics. Describing an invention of his own, Dr. Kress reviewed the experiments which had already been made in the direction of mechanical flight, touching especially on flying machines constructed to travel without the aid of balloons. The great difficulty to be overcome was that in the way of mating an aerophone capable of carrying human beings. He was, however, convinced that the dynamic principle applied to a flying»machine would surmoul|l|§i]fst difficulties,' and that such a machine would eventually sail with greater speed, and security than the motor of to-day ran along the roads. Such a machine wouldoiler to humanity enjojment hitherto unknown, and would be effective in the cause of science, peace and trade.' So desirable a consummation, Herr Kress expressed bis hope, would be-reached within the life of the present generation. Practically experiments with^apparatus on the platform deeply interested the audience. A series of aeroplanes, sup. ported by light wings of black silk, driven by aero-screws and regulated by Buper-. posed' fans, was shown in action, and several successful demonstrations of mechanical flight were given. One of the most notable was by a toy machine about a foot long, bearing underneath it the miniature figure of a youth on a cycle. The apparatus, being duly wound up, flew a slightly devious course of 20 feet or more before flopping down among the people;or coming intooollißioriwiththe; wall of the room. Larger models, flying in a manner suggestive of the flight of the heron, were, with one exception, not quite so successful, but, nevertheless evoked warm applause. &
__ I WBINKLES. \-* There is no more persistent foe to good looks * among women than, wrinkles, whether they are born of laughing or trouble. In the opinion of some people the laughing wrinkle is something to be admired, on the ground that it indicates a lovable nature. But there is no gainsaying the fact that lines about the mouth or eyes detract considerably. ... •. :f ..'. ■-, Fbom A; WolmajS"ji; BiBAUTTi * | tend to make her look old, and consequently are a source of great trouble to those who possess them.
In the majority of cases they aries from lack o£ care on the part of the woman, for it is quite possible for the joliest girl to' laugh twenty-four hours each day, if she cares to do so, without falling a victim to wrinkles. But if she neglects to combat with them she will find that the troublesome wrinkle becomes a furrow at thirty; a deep, well-set line at forty, and at fifty a most conspicuous crease. The woman who goes, to bed at night without properly grooming (her face is the one who will find herself most subject to wrinkles. In the morning she wakes up with her skin hard and dry, the reason of which she probably cannot understand. The fact is that the sensitive outer or scarf skin,-not being properly cleansed of the dußt of the preceding day, has during the night gathered floating particles and straygerms, which become embedded in the'complexion. . In the morning Bhe probably rises, washes her face in hot water, and then goes out into the fresh air immediately afterwards, then will come back with face red and chapped.;; • <; The effect on the face is more disastrous owing to the delicacy of the skin. The complexion is slowly ruined, and the way paved, so to apeak, for those terrible wrinkles which all the cold, cream and massage in the world will not drive away unless a little common sense . ba mixed with the application. • v >? : Laughing brißgs wrinkles as qnicfcly as frowns. But the laughing wrinkles, like the frowning furrows, can he, kept at bay by proper treatment. A girl who sees laughing wriakles coming round her eyes and mouth. must work at driving them away every night. In the morning it is too late to do the work which should have been done the night before...
The first step should be to cleanse the face generally, and the wrinkles in particular, with soap and water. . , Aftbbwabds St&ku thb and massage it gently with the tips of the fingers, using a little cold cream as an emollient, if you like, and little by little you will see the furrow disappear. But the path of the wrinkle does not stay, fair and smooth if neglected for any length of' time. The only manner in which it can be kept (invisible is by constant perseverance. Massage each side of the eyes, under them, and across the forehead', as well as around the mouth if there are wrinkles.. .;■/•;; >. - 111 ■ An extremely; good fcpai?soft J§apr whioh can be used for cleshsiHg the skin preparatory to massage, can be made bj oneself in the following manner: Have a little porcelain jar. in your bath-room-containing loz of pure almond oil. Keep the jar coveted, and into it throw the scraps of soap left over when the cake is too small to be handled. None of the soap should be common soap; but all of the fine toilet variety. WHen there is a fair quantity in the jar, pour its contents into an old saucepan and set upon the stove. Keep heated for three or our hours until all is of a soapy eonsistei jy, Stir well, and scent with a few drop of some fine perfume, ;
