Sprigs of winter-green or ground ivy will drive awaj red ants. Branches of wormwood will serve the same purpose for black ants. The insects may be kept out of sugar barrels by drawing a wide chalk mark round the top near the edge. Chloroform will remove paint. When the colour of a fabric has been destroyed by an acid, ammonia is applied to neutralise the same; after which an application of chloroform will, in almost all caseß, remove the original oolor. To restore gilt framt s, rub with a sponge moistened with turpentine.
