Wrong from the iienbled spirit, in hard boms Of weakness, solitude, perchance of pain, -i rath springs li»e harvest from the wellploughed laid, Asd the sool t atfa it baa not wept in vaia. THE LOYE HE LOVED. * I would not be beloved,' ha cried, * For lacltlaea form, or for grace with supple itrengch allied.
The noble mien and manly stride, That women babble of in bookß. . - • ' Oh, such a love I ne'er could heed;' - Bemarked his -friend, ' You'll not have need I' ' Nor should I lets a love deplore, Allured b/riches ef the brain j By mental store of precious lore, Bright pebbles picked on Wisdom's shore. And strung on Fancy's golden chain. To such a love I will not bend.' ' 'Nor get the chance!' remarked hie friend. .. -' ' But I would be beloved,' said he, * For something in me scarce expressed. Some tubtle charm, or quality, Which her dear eyes alone can see Oh, there's the love I-count the beßt.' •Fear not,' replied his friend, 'nor fret, For toat'e the kind of lore you'll get!'
