A Singular Discovery.
(From an Occasional Correspondent) The tremendous downpour of Friday evening last, which appears to have been particularly pronoutiei in the neighborhood of Dry Gully, led to a singular discovery. Between the gully mentioned, and Mr Borthwick's residence at the top of the'fcill, the road was cut away by the flood water to a depth of 10 or 12ft, exposing erabedded in the silt beneath, the huge lower jaw of a gigantic sperm whole. It seems a pity that the workman repairing the gap should have ruthlessly re-covered this mute, eloquent record of the far remote past. The discovery would seem to strengthen the theory of scientists concerning the marine origin of our ancient lake basin. .
