Taylor-Carrington Company.
On Saturday evening last, the above Company made their first appearance in the local town hall before a crowded house, when the drama ' Never Despair' was staged. The acting throughout was admirable, and the audience showed their appreciation of the efforts of the performers by liberal demonstrations of. approval. An eloquent tribute to the excellence of the performance was to be found in the fact that on Monday evening there was what we believe to have been a record attendance at the hall to witness the production of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin,' the hall being packed to' the suffocation point. And, notwithstanding the fact that a three-nights' season by one com- . pany has never previously been attempted in Alexandra, the Taylor-Carringtou Co, I were so successful in their efforts to please the public that the hall was again packed on Tuesday night when the Irish play ' Home Rule' was staged, On each occasion the Company were entuely successful,, and we cordially agree with the opinion expressed by our contemporaries that the Taylor-Car-rington combination is the largest and best that has ever visited these parts. The acting of Miss Oarrihgton and Mr Taylor in thew several roUt was without re* proacb, whilst Mr.Ward Lyons, in the part of the villian in the. several pieces, acted to the life, his interpretation of the part of •Legree' in 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' being especially meritorious. The other member* of the Company also sustained their .parts admirably. The Company may be assured of a hearty welcome should they ever pay a return visit to the goldfields,
