Borough Council.

A special meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Friday evening last, when there W6re present —His Worship the Mayor (Mr Jas. Kelman), Crs Spencer, Schaumann, Appleton, Anderson, M'Math, Ryan, Laid law and Buchanan,

The business of the meeting wasto consider the question of ordering a supply of pipes to extend the reticulation plan of the waterworks through streets not served by the mains.

The Finance Committee reported that the proposed work could be satisfactorily financed ; and, after some discussion, it was moved by Cr Ryan, seconded by Or Laidlaw, and carried— That a supply of l|-inch pipes, up to a mile in length, be ordered for the extension of the water supply. After considering tenders, it was resolved, on the motion of Cr Appleton, seconded by Or Buchanan, that the tender of the Otago Central Foundry for the supply of one mile of pipes be accepted.

At a meeting of the Council held on Monday evening, it was resolved that the official opening of the waterworks be held on Friday, 13th inst., and that the day be declared a public holiday after the hour of noon. It was decided that a picnic be held in the recreation reserve in the afternoon, and that a social be held in the town hall in the evening. It was resolved that the Council vote a sum not exceeding £ls towards the evpenses. The Mayor, Crs Ryan, Buchanan, and Laidlaw were appointed a committee to arrange a programme. It was also resolved that the Brass Band be asked to attend and that the Orchestral Society be asked to assist in the evening.
