Bannockburn.

(From our own Correspondent.) GOLDEN WEDDING.

A function unique in the history of Bannockburn eventuated on the 28th ult, when Mr and Mrs Begg celebrated their golden wedding. Mr and Mrs Begg came to the colony early in the eighties, and have resided since that time at Bannockburn. A large number of their intimate friends assembled in the hall to celebrate the event. A sumptuous repast was provided, and the tables were nicely decorated. Mr Jas Horn, in proposing the health of Mr Mrs Begg, referred to their popularity, and wished them many more years of continued health and prosperity. Mrs Ritchie then presented a substantial purse of gold to Mr Begg, and the toast was drunk with musical honors. Mr Begg suitably responded. Mr Barrowclough then proposed " The Descendants of Mr and Mrs Begg," and Messrs J Orabbe,* sen, J Oooper, and J Orabbe, jun, replied on behalf of some 55 descendants. A short concert programme was then rendered; Mrs Woodhouse, and Messrs Hancock, Thomas, M'lntosh, Rowleigh, and Newick sang, and Mr Barrowclough gave a recitation The hall was then cleared for dancing, which was kept going until 4 a.m. A feature of the dance was a Scotch Reel, performed by some old-timers, and as it is a good many years since this dance has been performed here, it proved a great deal of interest. SHOOTING. A team of Cromwell volunteers will visit here on the 9th inst, and try conclusions with a local team of ten, when an exciting match should result. Mr R May, of Cromwell, has presented a trophy, for the winning team.
