LOVELTGHT. She is nut fair to outward view As many maidens be; Hor loveiness I never knew Until she smiled on me! Oh, then I knew her eye wa3 bright, A well of love, a spring of light. But now her looks are coy and cold, To mine they ne'er reply; And yet I cease net to behold The lovelight in her eye, Her very frowns are sweeter far Than smiles of other maidens are, Her loveliness I never knew Until she uniled on me; Ob, then I knew ber eye was bright, A well of lo*e, a spring of li^ht! —Hartley Colseiduk. Can Bkill, or toil, or prayer, Eecallthj glow that oyer life was cast, Or bring again from out the vanished past The charm that made it fair ? Along the village street The children shout just as they ueod in spring, In tree and thicket ttill the late birds Bing Their music wild and sweet. My heart alone complains Like the dun year.
