Presentation.
Last Friday evening, in the presence of a large and representative gathering, at Mrs Donnelly's Hotel, Ophir, a presentation of a purse *of sovereigns was made to Mrs L P Cabot, on the occasion of the promotion to Greyr mouth of Mr Oabb't, of the Public Works Department. Mr Oabot was himself prevented by departmental etiquette from being united with his wife in the presentation. The gift was a spontaneous offering from the workmen and others connected with the line, to mark the good feeling and esteem in which Mrs Oabot and her husband have been held during their long residence in this district. A very enjoyable evening was spent, musical items being contributed by several of the ladies and gentlemen dresent; and the following toasts were honoured :—" The King," " Oar Guests," « The Premier," " The Ladies," " The Chairman." Mr Cabot feelingly replied on behalf of Mrs Cabot. The chairman was admirably filled by Mr M'Alpine, a workman on the line, and the proceedings terminated by the very hearty singing of " Auld Lang Syne."
