(From our own Oorresondent.) : r i After some weeks of scorching weather, we have at last got a welcome change in the shape of a couple of days' steady rain, which has had the effect of freshening things up a bit. GRASS fIRES. Some evil-minded person or persons have been amusing themselves, and at the same time damaging the property of the Kawarau Station, by setting fire to the grass on the surrounding hills. Grass, in this part of the.country, is not so plentiful that it can be burned at any time, by unauthorised persons, and I think, that if these offenders were found out they would get a hard time at court. SHOOTING MATCH. Saturday, the 10th inst, was the occasion of a trophy competition by by the local Rifle Club. The trophy consisted of a silver cake-dish, presented by Mrs A Ritchie. The winner proved to be Mr W Orabbe, who, with a handicap of 18, put on 86 point6 f The next best fccores were, Jas Orabbe. jun, 82 ; R Ray, 79; G Seatter, 76*; Jas Horn, 75; E Newick, 75. The nest match will be fired on Saturday, 24th inst, for a trophy presented by Miss Jean Orabbe.
