MINING NEWS.

The river has continued to fall steadily during the week, the height at the Alexandra bridge last evening being 3| feet above the " normal" mark. The Earnscleugh No 2 dredge retained work on Tuesday morning, The Perseverance Company has dedared another dividend (the 17th) of Is per share. The Eureka Co.'s No 2 dredge is being floated down the river, and should arrive at her destination immediately. It is intended to commence dredging operations at the lower boundary of the company's claim, where the Alexandra Lead dredge ceased operations on her first eat, should the river remain at a suitable level. Mr W Weir, late of the Moa dredge, has been appointed dredgemaster of the Crewe dredge at Nevis. Mr J. Stare has been appointed engineer of the Perseverance Co.'s No. 2 dredge. The surrender of the following coal leases his been accepted by the Crown: 19 acres 1 rood 14 perches, Section 2, Block XL, Town of Alexandra, Otago, and Section 17, Block VII, Leaning Rock District, granted to Louis Cards asd Samuel Cameron. The Sandy Point dredge still keeps on good wash, her weekly returns being highly satisfactory. A good deal of trouble and consequent loss of time hj caused occasionally owing to the accumulation of silt and fine staff at tlie stern, and to obviate this it is pro* posed to fit up a silt elevator on the dredge. This work will, we understand, be put in hand at once. The Olrig dredge last week got on to better wash, and the return for the present week is expected to show a still greater improvement. Sluicing operations were resumed last week on Mr James Rivers' Tucker Hill claim, a full supply of water now being available. The Mannherikia dredge again succeeded in topping the list last Saturday, with the handsome return of Ss7ozl6dwt. The dredge still keeps on very rich wash. The Fourteen-mile Beach dredge has not yet had a satisfactory trial run, and some finishing touches have yet to be made before a start can be made. The Bendigo dredge is operating on vary payable wash. ~" GOLGOND* GOLD DREDGING CO., (In Liquidation).
