(From our own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday, 8 p.m. The weather in Dunedin to-day was very wintry, with showers of sleet and snow. Owing to the heavy sea shipping has been delayed. At Timaru a tremendous sea is running, and 300 ft of the new mole being constructed there was carried away, together with the winches and pile driving gear. The damage is estimated at ill 000. On a surprise division in the House last night, in dealing with civil service appointments, the Government narrowly escaped a defeat, the voting being 29 to 25. A boy named Neilson was killed at Dannevirke yesterday through the accidental discharge of a gun. The King received a tremendous reception in Vienna. The Archbishop of Canterbury conducted Lord Salisbury's funeral service in Westminster Abbey. The funeral was national and all classes were represented. The insurgents in Macedonia have received advices to the effect that the Sultan desires war owing to Germany's influence. In oflicial circles in Sofia it is feared that the condition of affairs will precipitate a war between Turkey and Bulgaria. The French press condemn the passive attitude of the Powers in the matter.
