Obituary.

MR JOHN SHEPPARD. It is with much regret that we have to record the death of Mr John Sheppaid, one of the oldest and most respected residents of the Lauder district, who passed away on the 25th ult, after a short illness, The deceased gentleman, who was 75 years of age at the time of his death, had been a resident of the district since the early days, and was held in the highest esteem by all with whom he came in contact. The funeral took place on Thursday last, friends from all parts of the district being present to pay their last tribute of respect. The funeral service was read by the Rev J Gellie. A grown-up family of four sons and one daughter are left to mourn their loss, and to these are extended the sympathies of the whole community.
