Bannockburn.

(From our own Oprresondent.) Another of the residents of Bannockburn, in the person of Mr John Orombie, left here last week, en route for South Africa, where he is going to try his luck. Mr Orombie was a member of the Bth Contingent. He was well-known in football and cricket circles, and his absence will be much felt. However, we all wish him a successful in South Africa. RIFLE CLUB. The annual general meeting of the above club was held in the hall last Thursday evening, when a large number of members attended, Capt. Crabbe presiding. The report and balance sheet, which showed that the club was in a very satisfactory condition, was unanimously adopted. The club has a credit balance of about £B to begin the following year's business with. During the past year, numerous trophies were presented to the club for competition, and these were keenly aompeted for. Two matches were fired with the Cromwell Volunteers, of which one w*s lost, and the other won; scores on both occasions being very close. The secretary (Mr R Ray) and the members of the various committies were all re-elected. The opening match of this season, will be held on the 26th September, QUADRILLE. The most successful quadrille ever held in, Bannockburn, terminated last Friday night, *vhen the wind-up was held. . The weather was perfect for ancing, and about 36. couples graced he floor. The music was supplied by Misses P. and S. Hancock, who were ably assisted by Mr J. Halliday. Mr J, Flynn made an excellent M.C, The refreshments were of the best order, and were supplied by Messrs J. L. Scott and Co. All the young ladies who so ably helped with the refreshments, are entitled to special thanks, and the efforts of the untiring and energetic secretary (Mr Richard Toms; unmistakably made the quadrille the success it was.
