Writing on the duty of churches, the editor of " Taieri Advocate " makes the following pertinent and commonsense remarks:—We can remember how the ministers one and all used to denounce any kind of dance, yet dancing went on, and will go on as long as there are young, healthy, natural music-loving people in the world. In this very town strong opposition was evinced to afternoon sacred music selections by our band on Sundays. Hon anyone who believes in a Creator can oppose musical entertainments of any kind surprises us, | for spirited music is the natural outpouring of a soul filled with gladness, the expression of the joy one feels at being alive, and part of the great creative work of God. But we verily believe there are some folk who would actually prevent the birds from warbling on a Sunday if they had the power so to do.
