ALEXANDRA V CLYDE. A match between teams representing the above clubs was played at Alexandra on Saturday last, in the presence of a fairly large number of spectators, and resulted in a win for the l?cal team by lOpts. to 3pts. The teams lined out as follows : Clyde.—Full-back, Kirk; three-quarters, Butler. G. Buchanan, Jno. Davidson; fiveeights, R. Crawford and Gibson; half, W. Gye; forwards, Eeddell, Thomson (capt) Watson, M'Connochie, O'Connell, Rol. Crawford, Joe Davidson, J Wilson. Alexandra Full-back, W Edgecombe; three-quarters, H Kitto, G Campbell, T Wheeler (capt); five-eights, Cameron, W King; half, Richardson; forwards, Riley. Morgan, Todd, R Kitto, Gilhooly, Theyers, Jackson, E King. For some time after the kick-off play was in neutral territory, but good work by the Alexandra backs shifted play to the visitors 1 quarters. Here W King marked cleverly, and Todd placed a goal. 4—o. Further passing on the part of the home backs, followed by a forward rush, caused Clyde to force down, a score, being narrowly averted. Shortly afterwards, Crawford and Joe Davidson broke away with a dribble and the latter scored for Clyde near the posts. Buchanan failed with the kick. 4—3 Play now became fast and keen, but no further score resulted when half time was called. Shortly after resuming, Wheeler nearly got over, he being cleverly collared by Gibson. Play remained near the Clyde line for sometime, the visitors defeuding well, till the Clyde forwards got away with a drib- j bling rush. King returned with a good kick, and Clyde forced. A lot of give-and-take play took place on the Clyde side of the ground, the good tackling of the visitors averting a score on several occasions Edgecombe marked, and following up his kick scored 8 try near the corner. Todd made a good but ineffectual shot at goal. 7—3. From a kick-out after a free kick to Alexandra, Gilhooly got possession and scored: W King kicked a poster from a difficult angle. 10—3 Time was called shortly afterwards with play near the Clyde line* For the visitors. Joe Davidson, Gibson, and Buchanan were the best of the backs, their tackling being of mujh service. Of the forwards, Keddell and Wilson were most prominent, the former being especially valuable in the open. For Alexandra, Edgecombe played a very safe game at full-back, though his kicking was sometimes weak. W King did excellent work, and played the best back game on the ground. Wheeler also showed up well, and generally the backs played well together. Richardson, at half, invariably got the ball out to his backs with commendable smartness, The forwards played well together, and none can fairly be singled out for special mention. Suffice it to say that they did not appear to carry any' passengers.' Mr J R Cairns controlled the game to the entire satisfaction of both teams.
The return match between Alexandra and Cromwell will be played at Alexandra, probably on Saturday week. Last Saturday, at Sydney, the New Zea landers romped over All Australia to the tune of 23 points to 3. Qtfego defeated U ft 3,
