There is very little to chronicle in matters appertaining to volunteers, and I had perforce to clip (the following from various sources, and these may prove of some interest. Tn the Somali campaign, General Mansng Captain Plunkett's defeat to the insufficient stopping power of the £e*Metford bullets.— There is, no doubt, a large amount of truth uvthis statement, as with softer bullets the onslaught of the savages, might have received such a check as would have turned victory into defeat. He registered 10 consecutive bull's-eyes, placing them all in a apace of H inches. In going over some papers, I came aciossa card with the Ist Battalion war cry.
