Alexandra School.

The usual monthly meeting of the Alexandra School Committee was held on Friday evening last, when there were present—Messrs James Kelman (chairman), Schaumann, Laidlaw, Buchanan. Anderson, and Campbell. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The headmaster's report showed the attendance ior the past quarter to have been as follows:—Roll number, 85 girls, 100 boys; average attendance i for quarter: Boys, 85.3 ; girls, 76.3; total, 161.6. A letter was read from Miss Alexander resigning her position as assistant teacher at the school, she having obtained a position in the' Albert College, Auckland. On the motion of Mr Campbell, seconded by Mr Buchanan, it was unanimously resolved—That Miss Alexander's resignation be accepted with regret, and that the committee place on record their high appreciation of the good work done by her during her appointment at the school. On the motion of Mr Buchanan, seconded by Mr Anderson, it was resolved—That the secretary write to the Board requesting that a relieving teacher be appointed, pending a permanent appointment. Moved by Mr Laidlaw, seconded by Mr Schaumann—That application be made to the Board for a subsidy on the cost of repairing the headmaster's residence, and for fitting up stove-pipes in the school. On the motion of Mr Campbell, seconded by Mr Schaumann, it was resolved that the secretary apply to the Council for a f-inch pipe from the main, instead ot a |-inch pipe. Messrs Laidlaw and Schaumann were appointed a Works Committee for the ensuing month. The headmaster stated for some time past Miss Alexander had been training the children for a kinderspiel, which was to be held at an early date, in aid of the school funds. Since Miss Alexander's departure, Messrs Murphy, Thomas, and Briasco has kindly taken the matter in hand, and the kinderspiel would be held as originally arranged. Several accounts were passed for payment and the meeting then rose.
