Borough Council.
A statutory meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, the business being to receive and order upon the audited balance-sheet of the Borough There were present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J Kelman), Ore Spencer, Buchanan, Laidlaw, M«Math, Ryan, and Anderson.
The balance-sheet having been read, it was moved by Or Spencer, seconded by Or M'Math, and carried—That the balance-sheet as read be adopted.
j Subsequently, an ordinary meeting of the Council was held, to consider matters in connection with the waterworks. Two letters were read from the engineer, Mr Hay, with regard to the testing of the pipes before being covered, and the appointment of an inspector in connection therewith. It was suggested that the town clerk should be appointei inspector. Cr M'Math thought that an expert should be employed to watch the tests and inspect the pipes, and that the cost should be borne by the engineer. Or Ryan was of a similar opinion. After a good deal of discussion, the following resolution was carried, on the motion of Cr Buchanan, seconded by Or Ryan That the engineer be written to, stating that the Council is of opinion that he should appoint an inspector at his own cost. The Council then rose.
