A CINGALESE JUGGERNAUT. .*. Ceylon is a land of various creeds and of many forms of religions worship. The Hindus, who constitute a large proportion of the inhabitants, native and toreigH, have, in Colombo, a car similar to the Juggernaut car of India. It has keen made to carry the id J, called the 'lingam' in the annual procession known as • the ' Vale.' The idol is a black object, eighteen inches high, almost completely hidden beneath wreaths of white flowers, and is surrounded by meH wavißg fly whisk?, peacockß* tails, incense, etc.. and by bearers' of flags and standards on. foot. The car is 25 feet high, end is drawH: by a ccuple of huge wbite Brahmmee Bulls, as may be seen depicted in any sketch. The gateway of the temple was reconstructed and raised to give the car a free passage. Daring the festival of the Vale a large concourse of people assemble at. this temple to feed beggwß and to worship the idol, and amosg them are to be Been many Buddhists, who have no god of their own to pray or to supplicato, asd Roman Catholics
