The first anniversary social of the Presbyterian Sunday School was held in the Bald Hill schoolroom on Wednesday evening, May 6th. The Rev. Mr Mackie, of Alexandra, occupied the chair. The meeting was op-- '"-d by prayer and a hymn, after which came a most interesting programme, the items of which were as follows: Chairman's remarks ; children's cho -us, "Hosanna"; due'-, 'Love at Home,' Miss Campbell and Miss P. Burnard ; recitation, 'Only a penny a I ox,' Master John Burnard ; chorus, ' Our festive day so bright'; song, ' Whpn mother puts the li ! tle ones to bed,' Mrs Symes; recitation, 'Rock of Ages,' Miss Burnard ; duel", ' I'm a Temperance Girl,' Miss Ethel Burnard ; solo and chorus, Miss Elsie Symes; chorus by the children; recitation, «The May Queen'; duet, 'Come with me,' Miss Smith and Miss T, Burnard. The Rev. Mr Mackie delivered two short addresses, one particularly to the children and the other to the adults, wjiich were both listened to very at'tefitivejy.

The most taking item was a duet by two little lassies, aged about five (Clara- Symes and Ethel Burnard), The Rev. Mr Mackie hoisted them up on the table, where they sang as if they thoroughly enjoyed the novelty of the position I *. They were lifted down amidst a storm of .applause, and later on were called upon to repeat the performance. After the programme had been duly appreciated, refreshments were banded round. When justice had been done to the good things so bountifully provided by the ladies of the congregation, the young people/adjourned out* side, to finish the nighty's" enjoyment playing games in the glorious moonlight. A most enjoyable' gathering broke up about half-past ten. ~.
