FASHION AND THINGS .\L.P EMI NINE. Bt MISS ADA MELLER (Alt, Biohts Reserved.) VISITING TOILETrE WITS TRIPLE SKIRT. «nKHE skirt which diffarß most from Ijflb; the ordinary is the three-tier Qpsy» skirt, which is less worn than the simple stitched skirt with 4png seams, and, though trying to the figure if ill-made, looks particularly well when turned out by skilled hands. It is specially beoomig to tall figures, and. « cleverly cut is an exceedingly graceful skirt. A pretty model of a visiting toilette, with a three-tier skirt, is sketched in this column, and is suitable for weartag beneath ;a fur or other warm wrap. Through the habit of sitting io a hot room without removing the wrap when paying an afternoon call, many a chill has been caught, and therefore it is wise, when going to. a 'crush,' to wear a complete costume and an extra cape, coat,; er;-fur pelerine which may be discarded during tho reception and put on againiwhen leaving. Tne toilette sketched works but very snratly m blacK zibeline with velvet and..jguipare trimmings, in nayj-Bluo satin clo'b, in dahlia-red sergo, ,ih" fchestnut cloth, or in cerise frieze. The ,three skirt flounces, the capes and the basguo, are each bummed with velvet, and'the
Bussian bodies is trimmed with diagonal bands of velvet to mitch, the double boxpleat being decorated with half a dozen oxidised butt ras. Tae deep cuff i, vest and stoles (which border the neck of the , b>dice) should be of guipure lace on white satin, or of passementerie of sorts, and j the belt matches. The sleeves are fucked ,at the top. and the bodice fastens invisibly beneath the box-pleat. . If preferred, the velvet trimmings might be replaced by strappings of the dress material or of taffeta; it is optional whether "they ..contrast or agree with the colour ,'<jf„ the gown, but an excellent effect is produced by choosing the dress material of dahliared frieze and trimming it with' black cloth. Oa the other hand the distinct c mtrast of tone, appearing on the skirt, might' cut' the figure of any but a very tall woman too severely, and it would be better for one who is hot above medium height to avoid a striking contrast. WE IPS FOB THE WINTER The new way of trimming fur-touched cloth coats is to so arrange the fur that it has the effect of collar and stoles in one instead of being used on revers. The sacquet coat sketched gives an idea of the new method. Proceeding from the square yoke are a couple of narrow bands of fur, sewn to the fronts of the coat. The cuffs are also trimmed witb fur and the yoke is finished with cords and tassels, while stitched straps of cloth, decorate the'lower part of the coat. The other wrap sketched is a particularly smart model of a ?olf or travelling oape,\the excellence of which can hardly be gauged from a black and white picture. The original from which the sketch has been made is ot mantle cloth in a very rich shade of myrtle green, the deep-pointed yoke being of red and green plaid traced with flat, black silk braid, arranged in loops, similar braid bordering the cape throughout. The high
I storm collar turns .up or down at will, and the yoke, It may be added, takes] the same shape at the back as in front.'Hoods, instead of yokes are encountered on other golf; capes, the most chic models being all-round Bhoulder hoods and not more hoods falling from the back of the. neck. A very charming and serviceable cape is made of rough navy blue cloth with a shaggy nap, the shoulder hood being lined with a rich shade of red silk plaid! and of course a great many every-day capes are of revorßible tweed.
