Municipal Election.
Comparatively little interest was taken in the election, held yesterday, ior the return of eight members, who are to comprise the Borough Council of Alexandra for the ensuing two years—no doubt for the reason that the burgesses were satisfied that the members of the late Council have done all that was possible for the welfare o£ the town. . Only some 137 electors recorded their votes, and shortly after the poll closed, the returning officer (Mr F. Young) announced the result to be as follows :—George Spencer 113, L. C. Anderson 106, L. Ryan 99, E. Appleton 98, H. Schaumann 96, W. S. Laidlaw 87, T. M'Math 84, J. D. Buchanan 83, W, Fraser 72, C. E. Richards 70, G. R. M'Gregor 67. The returning officer declared Messrs Spencer, Anderson, Appleton, Ryan, Schaumann, Laidlaw, M'Math, and Buchanan duly elected. After the declaration of the poll, each of the candidates addressed an audience of about 200 people, who had gathered to hear the result. With the exception of Messrs Laidlaw and Buchanan, all the successful candidates were members of the re* tiring council.
