After washing and boiling counterpanes thoroughly rinse, and in the blue-water add some boiling starch, When the counterpane is dry,. damp down . and mangle. It will then look. qual to new, and last clean very mueh longer. To stiffen serviettes without starch, which wears out fine damask, wash and boil in the usual way, then blue and dry thoroughly; then sprinkle freely with warm water, and roll tightly overnight. When, ironed tNy will be aa .stiff as desired. Recipe for Whipped Cream.—Take a sixpenny pot of thick cream and pour it into a small basin. Then whip the whites of two eggs with a knife to a stiff froth, add to tbe cream, and pat one tablespoonful of sifted sugar and a few drops of vanilla. Whisk well together, or, beat with a knife for three or four minutes. TO USE UP SOUR MILK. Put the milk in a pan on the fire, and when the curd rises to the top struin through a sieve. To half a basinful of ouri allow two tablespoonfuls. of butter, the same of sugar, one or two eggs, a quarter of a pound of ground almonds. Beat each ingredient in separately. Line some patty-tins. with short-crust. Pat half a teaepoohful of raspberry jam in each, and cover well'with the curdmixture.; ,J?l*ee a cross of pastrry on top. Beke a light brown. J FOR THE HOT WEiTHER Drinks mude with, soda-water are appreciated. Those who can take mii'jc-and-Boda say that it is the most refreshing mixture invented, and milk counteracts the lowering effect cf the soda-water. :• 4. 0 \ If when tacking a new American cloth on a kitchen or dining table a-piece of thin oloth is glued where the corners will fit, it will give four times the wear, as the cloth prevents the edgas of the ta|}le •ticking through.
