REDUCTION OF DREDGEMEN'S WAGES.
TO THB EDITOR Sir,—Mr Davidson wishes to know my authority for saying that wages are soon to come down. Well, sir, this is but common talk in several districts among those who are supposed to know. Why, only the other day in Dunedin I was talking to a gentleman whose company belongs to the Dredgeowners' Association, and he told me confidently that when the Dredgemen's Society went hung, an all-round reduction was contemplated; and that but for the existence and interference of the dredgemen's so-called union, wages would have fallen considerably more than twelve months ago. In conclusion, I have to tell Mr Davidson that I have no rats to feed. I may also add that he and his associates will very soon get not only rats, but htans. —I am, &c. Breadwinner.
