THE PRICE OF BREAD.
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —As the people of Alexandra and district evidently imagine the local bakersi are now imposing upon them ;in|noir|rednciQg; price of bread, as has been done in other places, kindly find space to insert the enclosed telegram. This is only the forerunner of other correspondence that has passed t between, the miller! and myself. The lowered rate it which flour is quoted in Banedia merely applies to the supplying of bakers there—a./higher rate ia charged for flour sent to other places. Allowing, Sir, we had got the £1 promised ,on the next load, that would place us rather awkwardly, as it' takes, say, 66 loaves to" the sack- (or oX'as appeared in the „" Daily Times \'j. It requir«BS.£l 8s to give /one halfpenny per loaf.; TJie.want of a mill and: also grain'grown jh the district, causes higher prices on account of cartage which cannot be avoided.—l am, &c., Alexandra, March 16th, 1903. • .. / (telegbam.)
