% : The ordinary meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday-evening last. Prefeent—His Worship the Mayor (Mr Jas. Kelman), Crs Fraser, Spencer, Ryan, Anderson, Richards, Schaumann, and M'Math. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence was read as follows: ! —From Mr R Hay, re Waterworks contracts. *. —From th ! Commissioner of Crown Lands, re title of section 2, block xx : town of Alexandra. —From Messrs ; Wesley Turton and Son, solicitors, Queenstown, on behalf of Mr Jeremiah Robinson, stating that a drain has been cut by the instructions of the Council near Mr Robinson's property, and in consequence of the said drain not being Ikept clean Mr Robinson's house is really uninhabitable. Unless the matter is rectified, proceedings would be taken, as the nuisance cannot be a ! lowed to continue any longer. Messrs Tunton also stated that the Corporation has not made any improvements near Mr Robinson's property, and that he considers his rates excessive, and that he **■ will be compelled to enter objections to the next Assessment court unless he is rated considerably lower than he has been "in the past" ; —From the secretary, Education Department, advising that a subsidy of J6ll Os lid had been approved for the Alexandra Public Library, the whole of the amount to be spent "in the purchase of' new books. The inward correspondence was rerectived and the outward approved. Moved by Or Ryan and seconded by Cr Schaumann—That a letter be sent to Messrs Wesley Turton and Son, denying the allegations contained in their letter re Jeremiah Robinson. —Carried. '.,'■.' ~,- ,
Resolved—That the Works Committee attend to the gravelling at Baker's and TohnTs. crossing. Moved by Or Ryan and seconded by Cr M'Math— That: the Town Clerk be instructed to notify the holders of water rights in Chatto Creek'that the Council require their full supply of water.—Carried. * Resolved—That the Works Committee attend to getting the cemetery road chipped of tussocks, and have the fence repaired. Resolved—That the Town Clerk take steps to collect outstanding rates. Moved by Or Spencer and seconded by Cr M'Math—That tenders be called for gravelling Upper Tarbert. street.—Carried. \ . " The statement of balances was read as follows:—Dr general account, .£770 3s lid ; cr interest, account, .4233 14s 3d; cr charities account, £9O 0s 4d , cr cemetery account, £52 8s 6d; cr library account, 44 4s 8d ; cr pound account, lis j total debit balance, £3BO 5s 2d. Waterworks Loan Account, Cr £2632 8s 9d. The following accounts were ; passed tor payment.:—"'Engineering Journal,'* £l'; Central Otago Hospital Board, £2O 8s lOd ; J D Thompson, 5s 9d J J Wilkie and Co., £2 9s 9d ; F Young, £:8 : .10s 6d ; J Young, 5 .£16 ; cheque book; £1 . J M'Leod; £2 ss; ! D Smith, £2 14s; « N.Z. Statutes," £2 ; total, £56 13s lOd. ' The Council then rose.
