Volunteer Notes.
• [By " Lyddite."] Last week's parade wis fairly well attended, volunteers no doubt expecting Ser'gt.-major Kibblewhite, who unfortunately could not attend. As it is , the end of the volunteer year, and as a lot of departmental work has to be done, the instructor will have his hands full. However we may expect to have him up here very shortly. After parade a ceneral meeting was held, and the position of the company discussed. Members were unanimous in their expressions in regard to fathering the company, and it is to be hoped that some of the indifferent members will change their attitude and opinion and attend a little more regularly than they have been doing in the past. The company has vacancies for about ten or twelve recruits, and as there are no dearth of young and suitable men in the district, I hope to see the vacancies filled at an early date. Volunteers travelling from their district by railway will have separate carriages expressly reserved for them. This is a step in the right direction, but it is hedged by the fact that on no account will the volunteers be allowed to leave their carriage and go into another. The second competition for Mr Kelman's cup was fired for last Thursday and Saturday afternoons. Subjoined are the principal scores:—
