It is 'difficult to withstand such a charming display, and the magnificence of the shop is such as will attract a large custom. The interior has the appearance of a fairy palace. Harmony of colour, o£ design, and of arrangement is combined in a most pleasing manner not only in regard to the counter and show-cases, but to the walk and celling, which ara subdivided into panels, with alcove cornice' and . wall ; frieze. This produces a fine effect. The decoration is in delcate tints, the whole picked out with best English gold-leaf in the; most exquisite manner. The window fronts and interior show-caseß ate all of American walnut, polished bkek. presenting contrast to the glittering contents, which are seen to advantage, «.nd'may be inspected by intending purchasers with the greatest ease. The fronts are divided into uniform sections, each complete in itself, and are for the purpose of excluding dust or moisture. A special feature is the fine display of handsome clooks. The shelving is of plate glass, supported on silver-plated stands and brackets. The entrance door, in? Princes street, is a work of art, the floral design, with the monogram of the firm in the centre—one of the most artistic pieces of work to be seen in the colony. AH the jewellery is of the latest type, being speoially sent out from their London oflioo. This must give Messrs Stewart Dawson and Company a powerful influence in trade m the city and surrounding districts. It is 30 years now since the firm was founded. As illustrating the progress made during the past few years, some additions, to their business houses may be mentioned.
