Capt Jackson Barry's New Book.

Tli ■' Auckland Star," in a recent issue say.s;—" Oar pioneer Friend, Uapt ' Jackwn Barry, a colonial of 75 years, is once more in evidence, canvassing for bis new book, which is now in the hands of the printers 1 The captain is a wonder at bis age, 84 years. To stand the fatigue he does it surprising. The veteran had one of hia legs broken two years ago at New Plymouth, when saving a b>dy from being run over by a train, and was under the doctor for about sixteen months. He is, however, able to get about, and has so far been,,, very successful in getting; orders. The '■?. captain can well claim to be one of the founders of three great British colonies, for he was iu Melbourne in 1825, and stood where Queen street, Auckland, now is, in 1837, when it was a fern-clad . gully, with not. a vestige of a white man's dwelling or a white man's face to be seen, and about that time also was at Port Essineton, New South Wales, where he took cattle for the settlement established there. He was also in New Plymouth when Mr P. Carrington, who was laying off that town in 1842, bad to take shelter in Dickie Barrett's whare, as he was stopped and threatened by the natives. Several Auckland and southern friends have read the manuscript of his new book, and tney declare that it will be one of the most interesting volumes ever published in the colonies. Photographs of no fewer than 80 leading men of the colonies, including four Governors, and short autobiographies of each, and .of Lord Ranfurly, Governor of New Zealand, and photographs of the Hon. R. Reddon, Premier and his Ministry, and Premiers and members of earlier Mioistries." The Publishers "The JiPgtt.Publishing Company," of Auckland, ikrmnt<^t^n!:r%3r-B^.^ y ill be ready for issue very soon.
