Bannockburn.

, (From our own Correspondent.) ;.. WEDDING BELM. Last Wednesday morning a large crowd assembled at the Methodist Church here, to witness an event unique in the history of Bannockburn —namely, the celebration of two marriage ceremonies. The church was nicely decorated for tbe occasion, and the Bev. Mr Hosking officiated at both ceremonies. M'Oabe—Menzies,

Mr W. W. M-Cabe, fourth son of Mr Joseph M'Oabe, and' Miss H.;M. Menzies, both of Bannockburn, were the contracting parties in the first ceremony. Mr John M'dabe, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man, and Miss Martha Menzies as bridesmaid. The bride wore a very hand-some-wedding dress of cream cashmere, relieved with blue, and the usual wreath and veil. Her travelling dress consisted of brown satin cloth relieved with pick. After the ceremony the guests adjourned to the residence of the bride's parents, where a very healthy looking wedding breakfast awaited them. Before doing justice to it, however, the Kev. Mr Hosking, in a nice little speech, proposed the health of the bride, which was suitably responded to by the bridegroom. After the breakfast the happy couple drove to Wanaka, to spend the honeymoon. The contracting couples in this ceremony were Mr Frank W. Jeffreys, and Miss Lucy Tome, daughter of Mr Thos. Toms, ofjßannockburn. The bride wore a very'; pretty dress of blue satin, trimmed with lace and chiffon, and a very handsome picture hat. Miss E. Toms, sister of the bride, acted,as .bridesmaid, and Mr R. Toms was best man! After the ceremony the guests repaired to; the .bride's parents' house, and after the customary toasts: had been honored, the party sat I clown to 'a! sumptuous wedding spread. After this the bridal pair left for Queenstown amid showers of rice, old boots, &c. Then the party set to playing games, singing, etc., until a late hotir at niaht, when they dispersed, after singing. " Auld Lang Syne." ANNUAL PICNIC' The annual picnic took place on New Year's Day, and,, in spite of a disagreeable wind that was blowing during a good crowd of people turned up, and appeared to enjoy themselves, Sports of various descriptions were indulged in by the children, and a plentiful supply of refreshments was handed round. At night, the hall was packed, by a crowd assembled to witness a very good concert, got up by the picnic committee. The following is a list of the items : Pianoforte and violin selection entitled " Highland Wreath," by Mr W. Toms (piano) and the Misses Hancock (violins); Miss Allan, song, "Darby and Joan " ; Mrs Barrowclough, song, "The Brook"; Miss Thomas, song. " The. Fisherman and his Ohild ; Miss S. Hancock, " "While the dance goes on." This item moved several of the audience to tears. Mr Newick, " Sail on my Bonnie Bark "; Miss P. Hancock, " Ben Bolt" ; Misses F. and O. Horn, pianoforte selection ; Miss S. Hancock, "Loves Old Sweet Song" ; Mr Newick, "A Soldier's Grave"; Miss Thomas, "My Old Kentucky miss "your Mother,till She's Gone"; and to an unmistakeable recall, gave "The Last Roll Call." The concert; concluded with a pianoforte and violin selection;entitled " A Starry Night," by the Misses and.. Ray (violins), and Mrs W. Toms (piano)A dance followed and was well attended} and kept going briskly> t until 3 a.m.' . Music vfcas supplied by Misses Graham' and Hancock and.. Mr W. Wilson "was M.0.. ,-' ' ,_.
