COMPANY DIRECTOR FINED

INTOXICATION IN CHARGE OF CAR (P.A.) AUCKLAND, March 1. Found intoxicated -in his motor-car in Elliot Street, Auckland, on February 13, Robert Edgar McCrea, 44, a company director, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day. The police said he had two previous convictions in 1932 for a similar offence. Defence counsel said that McCrae had acquired one of the largest omnibus businesses in Auckland. He had recently been under great strain and on the day of the offence had a heavy cold. He had a few drinks late in the afteinoon, intending to return home and go to bed. “It is the general practice of the Court to inflict imprisonment where there have been previous convictions," said the Magistrate, Mr W. S. Spence. “But as it is 18 years since you last offended I will not send you to prison.” McCrae was fined £SO and lost his driving licence for three years.
