TWO RECORDS BROKEN CAMERON PERFORMS WELL The highlights of the Ashburton High School athletic sports, which were held yesterday at the Domain, Avere the performances of B. Cameron, who broke two senior ' championship records. In the 120 yards high hurdles, Cameron covered the distance in 17 seconds, two seconds faster than the previous record held jointly by E. Osborne (1933) and T. Kennedy (1939). The record for the 440 yards, established by K. Plunkett in 1944, was bettered by two-fifths of a second. Although there are still championship et'ents to be decided, Cameron has had four firsts in four starts, and has a clear lead. The Baird sisters, N. and S., disputed the senior girls’ title, and some good performances tvere put. up in this section. The outstanding competitor in the handicap events was W. Whitehead, who Avon the 440yds, 880yds and the mile all off the scratch mark. The annual Past versus Present pupils relay race resulted in a clearcut Avin for the schoolgirls’ team, but, the Old Boys’ team, a very formidable combination easily outclassed the school team.
