FREE NATIONS’ SECURITY
Steady Improvement Seen NEW YORK, Feb. 27. The overall security position of the free world was steadily improving, in spite of the powerful land armies and tremendous reserves built up by the police States, said the Chief of Staff of the United States Army (General J. Lawton Collins), addressing a national industry and army conference at New Orleans to-night. General Collins said that the army was awaiting delivery of “the best light tank in the world.”
He added that genuine progress was being made with the development of an anti-aircraft rocket which the army believed would effectively combat high-speed aircraft at altitudes and ranges beyond the capabilities of antiaircraft guns. General Collins said that an anti-aircraft guided missile which gave promise of providing even greater accuracy and lethality was also being developed.
