ASSOCIATION MEETS

PROTEST PROM LAURISTON CLUB

A letter from the Lauriston Cricket Club in protest against the selection of junior players for senior teams was received by the management committee of the Ashburton Cricket Association last evening. The text of the let-, ter evoked considerable discussion, but finally the committee made the following statement:. “The policy of the selectors is to choose promising junior players for senior teams to give them more experience and a chance to improve their cricket.” The future of cricket was in the hands of the young players, said one of the selectors, Mr I. M. Hamilton. Investigations into the formation of four reserve teams will be made by a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Hamilton, A. Todd and R. Tulloch (secretary), who will also endeavour to arrange concrete wickets for practices. The senior draw will be rearranged to enable the Ivia Ora team to have a bye in the last round. AUSTRALIANS WIN 1 * TARANAKI’S POOR EFFORT (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 27. Dismissing Taranaki to-day for 99 runs and 123 with an hour’s play left, the touring Australian cricket team scored a win by an innings and 113 runs. Milfer and Scott hatted well in Taranaki’s first strike, and Betts, Broughton and Spedding showed some ability in the second, but generally the batsmen had no counter to Iverson’s tweaked off-breaks.
