TINWALD W.C.T.U.

MONTHLY MEETING The Tinwald branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union held the first meeting for 1950 in the Central Hall last week, when the president (Mrs Millar) presided and led the devotions. 'lt was agreed to send a letter of sympathy in her prolonged illness to Mrs Jennings and family. The pledge was reaffirmed by the members present. The 22 remits to be discussed at the Dominion convention, .to be held at Wanganui in March, were read and considered.

Frances Willard Day was observed and extracts on her home life and her great work as leader and founder of the W.C.T.U. movement were read by the president. Arrangements were made to hold a Band of Hope meeting in March. The syllabus for the ensuing year was then drawn up and the following Temperance Fact was given: “In accidents much harm is done by administering alcohol. . When bleeding is present, to give alcohol quickens the heart-beat and increases the loss of blood.”

The meeting closed with a hymn and the benediction. Afternoon tea was served.
