WATERSIDERS LEAVE FISH ON WHARF
REFUSAL TO HANDLE CASES FOR AUSTRALIA (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 24. For the second time this week, Bluff watersider workers have not loaded big consignments of fish for the Australian market. On Tuesday the Waitaki left Bluff with empty refrigeration space, while two truck loads of fish remained on the wharf, and oA Wednesday night the same fish, 2000 cases, was refused for, loading on the Viti, which left yesterday for Sydney. Asked if a section of Bluff watersiders had taken part in the fishing dispute, the secretary of the Bluff Watersiders’ Union (Mr F. Vella) said: “The public of Bluff is in sympathy with the Bluff fishermen in/the reason for the dispute.” Mr Vella would not comment on whether watersiders had refused to load the fish. 'General cargo was loaded on the Viti, but the fish was left on the wharf.
