WOMEN’S DIVISION
ASHBURTON BRANCH The Ashburton branch ,of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held its monthly meeting in the Foresters’ Hall on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Buchan presided over a good attendance of members in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mrs. A. S. Hayman. 1 Mesdames Harper and Millar, delegates to the executive meeting held in the Community Centre on February 10, gave reports of proceedings. Arrangements were made at that meeting for the provincial conference to be held in the Radiant Hall on March 14. The Ashburton branch is to be in charge of the stage arrangements. Members were asked to attend and bring a friend. The Mid-Canterbury district of the Division will be responsible for a miscellaneous stall at Te Kiteroa on March 11.
The hostesses ' appointed for the month of March were Mesdames E. Hayman, Smith and Bramley.
Sympathy was expressed with Mrs Penny in the death of a relative. A most interesting demonstration on tatting was given by Mrs Johnson, assisted by Mrs Smith, and in consequence it was proposed that an article of tatting be included in the competition for the meeting in March.
Mrs Butterick thanked Mrs Johnson on behalf of those present for her demonstration.
February competitions resulted as follows: —Large bloom, Mrs E. Hayman 1, Mrs Ellis 2, Mrs Millar 3; small bloom, Mrs Ellis 1, Mrs Millar 2, Mrs E. Hayman 3; spike, Mrs Hayman 1, Mrs Harper 2, Mrs Millar 3; cluster, Mrs Ellis 1, Mrs Millar 2, Mrs E. Hayman 3; shrub, Mrs E. Hayman 1, Mrs Millar 2, Mrs Harper 3; truss, Mrs E. Hayman 1, Mrs Millar 2; bowl of gladioli, Mrs E. Hayman 1; knitted gloves, Mrs E. Hayman 1, Mrs Millar 2. RUAPUNA BRANCH
A very interesting talk on his travels in Palestine was given by Mr J. Mathews at the recent monthly meeting of the Ruapuna branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mr J. Clifford presided.
The invitation of the Mayfield W.D.F.F. and W.I. to attend a combined flower show was accepted, and it was agreed to cancel the March meeting.
A letter of thanks for a parcel was received from Mrs Woodham, of England.
It was imported that the W.D.F.F. dressmaker had visited two members. The hostesses were Mesdames J Conway and N. E. Kirkman. Competitions, judged by Mr Mathews, were: Slice of Christmas cake, prettiest butter dish, premier bloom, bowl of annuals and collection of vegetables.
