JUNIOR BRANCH OFFICERS SUCCESSFUL YEAR REVIEWED , Miss J. E. Bain presided over a good attendance of old and new members at the annual meeting of the annual meeting of the Ashburton junior branch, held in the Foresters’ Hall on Thursday evening. On the transfer of Mr W. A. Childs to commence study for the Church Army, Miss Bain, on behalf of the branch, made a presentation as a small token of the appreciation of the members generally. Mr A. Renner spoke of the excellent work done by Mr Childs not only for the National Party but for the church, Football Club, and other Ashburton associations. Mr J. Paterson, Canterbury divisional organiser, conveyed the thanks and appreciation of Messrs R. G. Gerard, M.P., Mr H. C. B. Withell (electorate chairman), Mr R. D. Robinson (Ashburton chairman), Mr W. R. Harris (junior divisional chairman and the Canterbury ' executive, of which Mr Childs was the deputy rural divisional chairman). Mr Childs suitably responded. Mr Paterson, in a short address, thanked the branch for the serious work done during the past eventful year. The election work was wonderful, but the educational activities held last year such as mock parliaments, mock city council meetings, mock elections, discussion groups, etc., proved the growing interest in local and Dominion government. Votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing chairman and committee and Mr Paterson. ~ 'An enjoyable dance followed, music being supplied by Mr R. Dabourn. Officers were elected as follows: Chairman, Mr S. Rickard; deputy chairman, Miss A. Collins; secretary, Miss V. Arker; assistant secretary, Mr R. Renner; committee, Misses C. G. Glossop, B. M. Bramley, J. A. Harris, Messrs G. Payne, D. Thomas, D. C. Crothers; junior divisional committee, Misses A. Collins, V. Arker, Messrs S. Rickard, R. Renner; senior women’s branch, Misses J. E. and K. I. Bain; senior men’s branch, Messrs S. Rickard, R. Renner; liaison officers, Messrs R. Cairns, L. Armstrong.
