METHVEN PUBLIC LIBRARY
NEW ’OFFICERS; ELECTED Mr A. G. Paulin presided over a very good attendance at the annual meeting of subscribers to the Methven Public Library. The annual report stated that the year had been a satisfactory one, although the number of subscribers had declined slightly, as had also the number of books placed on the shelves. The chairman tendered thanks to those who had kept the library grounds in order, and to all members of the committee for their work during the year. It was reported that 210 books had been added during the year, and although a slight decrease in price was noted, the quality of the binding had deteriorated. Members had spent many evenings repairing the bindings. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £ls 10s 7d as against £l7 lGs last year.
Two members of the committee, Messrs F. J. Tempero and N. Dewe, left the district during the year. Mrs D. Kilworth resigned her position as librarian and Miss Kensington was appointed to the vacancy. Subscribers totalled 122, rather a small number considering the population of the district and the service given.
The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr A. G..Paulin; vice-chair-man, Mr C. W. Talbot; assistant-libra-rian, Mrs J. D. Chambers; deputy librarian, Mrs G. Waddington; honorary auditor, Mr C. 11. Sumpter; committee, Mesdames H. G. Ayers, C. L. Richards, G. Cleeve, Clay, M. Kirk, R. Jenkins, and E. Kilworth, Messrs G. E. Wallace and Chapman-Cohen. It was mentioned that Mrs E. Kilworth had been a member of the library for 49 years and eulogistic reference was made to her work. It was suggested that a function be held next year to celebrate her 50 years’ membership.
