BOY KILLED BY CRICKET BALL
STRUCK ON HEAD AT PRACTICE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, February 23. Struck on the head by a cricket ball, a pupil of Avondale College received injuries from which he later died. He was John Charles Phillip Rodgers, aged 15, son of Mr W. E. Rodgers, of Canal Road, Avondale. The boy was struck by the ball at practice after school on Wednesday. Ho was taken to the Auckland Hospital, and died shortly after 11 o’clock this morning. , MAN’S DEATH AT HOMER TUNNEL (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 23. . Mr Burton Henry Ballagh, who died after receiving injuries in the Homer Tunnel yesterday, was one of a party that left Christchurch to make a tour of the Hollyford Valley district. The party was at the Milford entrance to the tunnel yesterday, and Mr Ballagh was' examining the scaffolding of the tunnel when a portion collapsed, inflicting a fracture of the skull. In spite of the efforts of a doctor and two chemists who were present, Mr Ballagh died in 20 minutes.
