SERIOUS LOSS

CYCLOTRON DESTROYED (Rec. 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 22. Fire virtually destroyed the 400,000dollar cyclotron at Princetown University, New’ Jersey, to-day. , Dr Milton White, Professor of Physics and director of the navy research project using the cyclotron, said that only its magnets could be saved.

The mafehine was 'built in 1935 and was one of the first atom-smashing devices constructed in the United States. It -svas rebuilt in 1946, and was being used for research in light nuclei. Dr, White said the rebuilding job would take at least six months.
