DRIVE AGAINST KARENS
BURMESE GOVERNMENT FORCES RANGOON, Feb. 22. A big military drive by Burmese Government forces, strongly supported by artillery arid mechanised units, using Bren carriers recently shipped from Britain under the Com monwealth aid programme, has begun against Karen rebels who for a long time have been holding the rail and road links between Pegu and 'l'oungoo. With Burmese Air Force support, ground forces have surrounded Pyuntaza. The Karen resistance has so far been unspectacular.
