GOLD COAST DISORDERS
PARTY LEADER SENT TO PRISON (Rec. 11 a.m.) ACCRA (Gold Coast), Feb. 22. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, leader of the Gold Coast Nationalist Convention People’s Party, was sentenced to one yeai*’s gaol for “inciting others to take part in an illegal strike.” Eight of his followers were also sent to gaol for a year. . • T. Hutton Mills, the party’s legal adviser, was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment. Disorders broke out along the Gold Coast in January, resulting in a state of emergency which is still in force.. The People’s Party demanded Dominion status for the Gold Coast.
