CHORAL SOCIETY
PLANS FOR SEASON Plans for presentations in the coming season were made at the annual meeting of the Ashburton Choral Society, held last evening. It was decided to present “The Lorley” (Mendelssohn) and the “Peasant Cantata” (Bach). It was reported also that the music for the Canterbury Centennial cantata by Mr J. A. Ritchie was to hand, and it was proposed to present it in Christchurch in September of this year. There was only a fair attendance at the meeting but 17 apologies for absence were received. The annual report and balance sheet showed a successful 194!) season, musically and financially. Officers were elected as follows.— Patron, Mr R. G. Gerard, M.P.; president, Mr E. C. Bathurst; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames A. T. Smith and I. L. Hope, Messrs IT. A. Humphreys, E. J. Tucker. R. J. Tucker, A. Miller Hope, W. 11. Higgins, Drs. J. R. Wells, N E H. Fulton and W. G. Todd; sec-retary-treasurer, Mr A. P. Warriner; librarian, Mrs K. W. Macfarlane; house manager. Mr K. W. Macfarlane; committee. Mesdames M. Weir and B. Dobbie, Miss M. Hutton, Messrs R. Downes, D. Moore and F. Stone; honorary conductor, Mr A. Miller Hope; pianist, Miss L. M. Macdonald.
